About MVMS Band
FALL SEMESTER:
∙ The 7th & 8th Grade combined Band performs at Pep Rallies and Football home games from August through October in support of the team. We perform Pep Band music to help get the crowds in the spirit of the game.
∙ The 8th Grade Band performs a Veterans Day Program to support military appreciation, each November.
∙ Both the 7th & 8th Grade Bands perform a Holiday Concert each year in December, both for their parents and friends & also for the student body.
SPRING SEMESTER:
∙ Both the 7th & 8th Grade Bands prepare for their annual Music Performance Assessment in March. They collaborate with the Hazel Green HS Band to perform a pre-MPA Performance for parents and friends in February.
∙ Both the 7th & 8th Grade Bands prepare a Spring Concert of lighter, fun pieces to celebrate the close of school and the beginning of summer.
ADDITIONALLY:
∙ Students in both grades work individually to achieve selection in various college Honor Bands: Univ of AL, Auburn Univ, UAB, UNA, JSU, and Samford Univ.
∙ Students are selected annually for the Madison County Honor Band, the ABA District 1 Honor Band, and the Alabama All-State Middle School Band.
∙ Students work as soloists or in small ensembles to compete at the annual ABA District 1 Solo & Ensemble Festival in April.
SPRING TRIP:
∙ The Band takes a small group on a spring trip to either Pigeon Forge or Atlanta each May to compete in the Music in the Parks Festival. This is optional—the group meets after school in April to prepare for this trip.
The cost to be in the Band is minimal--$100 for the year, which covers most of the supplies needed for being in the Band. Students just need to acquire an instrument and the Director will guide them with that once they decide what you will be playing.
Most importantly, Band is taught with this End in Mind: a lifelong love of learning about Music!
